Doug Tree
A blue-wigged, Batman-masked menace from East Van.
Doug Tree is a blue-wigged, Batman-masked menace from East Van. A little crass, a little cracked, and completely self-medicated, he’s your weed guy with a mic and a vendetta. Known for raw bars, unapologetic rhymes, and showing up uninvited to Dubgee’s sessions, Doug Tree is the alter ego you didn’t ask for but can’t ignore.
Tree first emerged on Game Day, a hockey rap album produced by Dubgee with beats built from sounds recorded in Vancouver bars while watching the Canucks’ 2011 playoff run. He later joined forces with Billy Botox as #TreeTox for Back on the Grind, further establishing the smoked-out, off-kilter world he’s been inhabiting ever since.
Now Doug Tree is back with Pre Rolled Joints, his latest full-length trip into weed, beats, bad decisions and the increasingly strange world surrounding the character. It’s another chapter in a catalogue that has never taken itself too seriously, even when Tree takes himself very seriously.
Whether he’s rapping over the sounds of a Canucks playoff run, getting back on the grind, rolling up Pre Rolled Joints, or hijacking another Dubgee session, Doug Tree has always operated by his own rules.
His music exists in another dimension.
